Challenge:

The client operated a combined power and desalination facility with HRSG units experiencing significant thermal expansion in ducting lines. Existing rigid connections were cracking under temperature cycling, and there was a need for flexible joints that could handle large axial and lateral movement while resisting high temperatures and particulates.

Solution Provided:

FlexiBel designed and fabricated high-temperature fabric expansion joints using multi-layered construction: an outer PTFE-coated fiberglass fabric, stainless steel mesh reinforcement, and a ceramic fiber insulation layer. Joints were supplied pre-assembled with bolted frames and clamping flanges for fast on-site fitment.

Why FlexiBel:

  • Custom-engineered for large movement absorption (±150 mm)
  • Designed for continuous temperatures up to 600°C, peaking at 850°C
  • Rapid production and site-ready supply in just 10 days
  • Included on-site dimensional check and installation support

Result:

The fabric joints performed as expected under extreme thermal cycles, eliminating stress cracking and reducing inspection downtime. The solution was later standardized across all exhaust and flue gas lines in the facility’s thermal block, with FlexiBel retained for maintenance stock and future replacements.
