Challenge:

A petrochemical facility faced recurring issues with vibration transmission from high-capacity cooling water pumps to connected piping. This resulted in fatigue-related flange failures and frequent maintenance. The system also experienced slight misalignments and pressure surges during pump startup/shutdown cycles.

Solution Provided:

FlexiBel supplied twin-arch rubber expansion joints with control rods to absorb vibration, minor lateral offsets, and transient pressure loads. Joints were manufactured using EPDM with high-tensile synthetic reinforcement, suitable for cooling water service with chemical resistance. Units were installed with split backing flanges and gasketed end connections for quick retrofit.

Why FlexiBel:

  • Engineered joint design to handle vibration, movement, and surge
  • Material selected for temperature resistance (up to 120°C) and long service life
  • Field-friendly installation with pre-assembled control rods
  • Delivered within 5 working days from approval, reducing downtime

Result:

Post-installation monitoring showed a significant drop in vibration levels, reducing stress on the pipework and pump nozzles. Maintenance intervals extended by over 12 months, and the plant added rubber bellows to similar pump sets across the utility block.
